Step Deck & Heavy Haul dispatch

Step Deck, RGN & Lowboy Dispatch Services

When freight is too tall for a standard flatbed or too heavy for anything else, it goes on a step deck, RGN, Lowboy or Landoll. These loads pay the most per mile on the road — and require the most planning. That is exactly where an experienced dispatcher earns their keep.

A step deck's lower deck gives tall freight the extra clearance it needs to stay under legal height limits, which makes it the go-to trailer for machinery and equipment. RGN (removable gooseneck), Lowboy and Landoll trailers go further, letting equipment drive or winch directly onto the deck and carrying freight that would crush a standard trailer.

This is specialized work. Every load has a different footprint, weight distribution, and permit picture. Pro Dispatch dispatchers review dimensions, weight per axle, loading method, route restrictions and escort requirements before a load ever reaches you — and price the load accordingly.

Heavy haul loads that pay what they're worth

Heavy haul rates of $4 to $6 per mile are achievable, but only if every cost is accounted for: permits, escorts, extra time on site, and the deadhead that often comes with specialized equipment. We build all of that into the number we quote, so a big-looking rate doesn't turn into a losing week.

  • Exact dimensions and weight verified with the broker in writing
  • Over-dimension permits and route surveys flagged before acceptance
  • Pilot/escort car needs identified by state
  • Loading method confirmed (drive-on, crane, forklift)
  • Chains, binders and securement requirements matched to the load

Keeping specialized equipment busy

Specialized trailers can sit longer between loads if nobody is actively hunting freight for them. Your dispatcher works construction, agriculture and equipment-dealer freight at the same time, and keeps a short list of standing relationships so your step deck or RGN has its next move lined up before you unload.

Why carriers choose Pro Dispatch for step deck & heavy haul freight

Pro Dispatch has been dispatching trucks for more than five years. Every carrier gets a personal dispatcher who handles only three to five trucks, works 24/7, and is paid on commission — which means your dispatcher only does well when you do. Loads are booked under your own MC, so brokers pay you or your factoring company directly. There is no long-term contract and no forced dispatch: you choose every load, and you can leave at any time.

FAQ

Step Deck & Heavy Haul dispatch questions

What's the difference between a step deck and a flatbed?

A step deck has an upper and a lower deck. The lower deck sits closer to the ground, so it can carry taller freight without exceeding legal height limits.

Do you handle permits for oversized loads?

We identify the permits and escorts each load needs and coordinate with you and the broker so everything is in place before pickup.

How much do RGN and Lowboy loads pay?

Heavy haul loads on RGN, Landoll and Lowboy trailers average around $6.00 to $9.00 per mile, with weekly gross averages around $17,000 to $21,000 depending on the market and the freight.
